BIO
Jose Diaz is an Associate Immigration Attorney at Gomez and Associates. Jose has several years of experience handling removal defense and family immigration cases before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (Immigration Court) and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). He represents clients in numerous areas of immigration law, including but not limited to, removal defense before the Immigration Court, DACA, U-Visa, NACARA, TPS, asylum, cancellation of removal for lawful and permanent residents and individuals without status, motions to reopen, consular processing, stateside provisional waivers, naturalization, and adjustment of status.
In 2011, Jose began working in the field of immigration law as an intern. He graduated from California State University in Los Angeles and Western State University College of Law in Orange County. While in law school, Jose focused his studies on Immigration Law. He took part in the Immigration Clinic organized at his law school, where he helped immigrants in the Orange County community by conducting various workshops and by being part of the legal orientation program at the John Musick Detention Center. For this work, he was awarded a Certificate of Exemplary Public Service for dedicating over 200 hours of public service to the immigrant community.
Originally from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Jose grew up in Whittier, California, and immigrated to the United States as a child. Jose comes from a family of hard-working immigrants. As such, he is fluent in Spanish. At an early age, Jose's parents instilled their hard work ethic in him; from selling merchandise at the local swap meet as a child to becoming an attorney. Jose recognizes how lucky he has been and as a result makes it his mission is to keep immigrant families together in the United States, so they too can achieve their American Dream.
In addition to being an attorney, Jose is a certified mediator in Los Angeles County. He is licensed by the State Bar of California and is authorized to practice before all the Immigration Courts in the United States and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Jose is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, an active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, an active member of the American Immigration Lawyer Association (“AILA”), and an AILA liaison.
